What is A C-Section

A C-Section, also known as a Cesarean Section, is a surgical procedure whereby the baby is surgically removed from the mother’s womb. The procedure is done in a hospital operating room under sterile conditions and can be scheduled in advance or it can be done as a last minute change in birthing plans. Read more »

To Have or Not to Have a C-Section – The Elective Decision

Having a c-section is not for everyone and in my humble opinion I think it’s a procedure that should be left for those who truly need it medically, that includes women who have severe Tokophobia or fear of childbirth.

On the other hand, those considering an elective c-section  for convenience or timetable reasons would not be good candidates in my mind. Read more »

How To Have a Healthy, Happy C-Section

Having a c-section is major abdominal surgery and any time surgery is performed there could be potential complications.  Fortunately the c-section procedure itself is one of the safest surgeries performed so if you are relatively healthy and have had a pretty good pregnancy there’s no reason you can’t have a healthy, happy c-section.

Having a Planned C-Section Could Mean A Better Sex Life

Imagine that!  A planned C-section could mean an improved sex life.

Yep,  that’s the conclusion drawn from a study done with over 900 healthy first time mothers along with their husbands who were questioned about their sexual function.

The researchers conducting the test used a female sexual function index for the women and a similar index for the men which are questionnaires developed specifically for measuring sexual function.

Interestingly enough the tests showed that women who had planned c-section, note the keyword here is ‘planned’, scored higher on the sexual function index than women who had vaginal births or emergency c-sections.   You can read more about the study here:

The study clearly needs further research but just for fun…

I run into pregnant women all the time, in fact just the other day while doing my run to the grocery store I counted 4 women that were pregnant.

I notice pregnant women a lot, which is really no surprise as I’ve written a book about Cesarean’s and have had 2 c-sections myself, but I also just have an interest in those cute, tiny, precious babies :-)

It’s also no surprise that when I see a pregnant woman I often wonder how they will deliver, will they be vaginal or c-section? But I also wonder if they themselves ever think that a c-section might be possible. Probably not. I certainly didn’t when I was having my first child.

So the next obvious question is – should they be thinking about it?  Read more »

Are C-Section Moms Less Responsive to Baby?

In an article by Denise Mann from WebMD Health News titled ‘C-Sections Affects Moms’ Response to Baby’ I was happy to hear that having a c-section doesn’t mean you should feel like less of a mother but it did indicate something interesting and that is that moms who deliver naturally may be more responsive to their newborn’s cries than moms who have had a c-section.        Read more »
