Is Having a C-Section Really Giving Birth?

I was just recently on Yahoo Answers where the question came up as to whether or not having a C-Section is really giving birth.

My question is ‘How is having a C-Section not giving birth?”  And if I didn’t give birth to my child, who did?

I thought the question was a little ignorant on the part of the person asking, but in light of how many women feel discouragement and sadness after having a C-Section, I think this may be something many women themselves really feel.

Have you had a C-Section and felt you didn’t really give birth?  Have you ever had someone say this to you?

What are your thoughts?

C-sections are happening at a high rate among all groups of women giving birth.  C-Sections aren’t necessarily more common with older women, but the older the woman is giving birth, the more medical challenges she can encounter.

Pitocin Induction Has Been linked to Having A C-Section

pitocin induction Studies have  shown that a  Pitocin induction has been linked to having a C-Section.  

In other words using Pitocin to stimulate contractions when a woman is in labor can increase her chances of having a C-Section by more than 23%.

What is a Pitocin Induction?

Pitocin is a synthetic form of a natural hormone, Oxytocin.  When a woman begins to go into labor, it’s the oxytocin hormone that stimulates contractions.   However, if a woman is in labor and she is progressing too slow,  Pitocin is often used to speed up the labor process.
