An article in the nytimes.com posted the dismal news about a woman who was seeking health insurance and abruptly turned down.
At first she didn’t understand how that was possible since she had been in perfect health and only 39, but later learned that she was turned down because she had had a prior c-section birth. Read more »

Well today is 8/8/08 and it’s a big day. Why? For one thing it’s the start of the Summer Olympics in China but it’s also “8/8/08″ …which has kind of a ring to it.
But what struck me as interesting is that my good friend and maternity nurse, Sheila told me that today will be one of the busiest days at the hospitals because of all the moms requesting c-sections in order that their babies be born on this day. That doesn’t surprise me, remember the 1/1/01 date? It was a c-section frenzy.
Ok, I think it’s cool to have your child’s birthday on such a memorable date but putting yourself through a c-section would be a little more than I’d want to go through for claiming any date as my child’s birthday.
My hope would be that anyone passionate enough about grabbing the 8/8/08 birth date that they put themselves through a c-section, then they’ll be plenty geared up and ready for the recovery …I hope

Tokophobia is the Fear of childbirth and this occurs in about 1 in 6 women.
That may sound strange to you but there are women who legitimately suffer from this type of phobia. What’s more is that the widely growing personal requests for having a C-section today may be, in part, due to the fear of giving birth. Read more »
