Should you Prepare for a C-Section - Just in Case?
I run into pregnant women all the time, in fact just the other day while doing my run to the grocery store I counted 4 women that were pregnant.
I notice pregnant women a lot, which is really no surprise as I’ve written a book about Cesarean’s and have had 2 c-sections myself, but I also just have an interest in those cute, tiny, precious babies
It’s also no surprise that when I see a pregnant woman I often wonder how they will deliver, will they be vaginal or c-section? But I also wonder if they themselves ever think that a c-section might be possible. Probably not. I certainly didn’t when I was having my first child.
So the next obvious question is - should they be thinking about it?
The answer to that for me would be a resounding ‘yes‘. When I was pregnant with my first child, the thought of a c-section never crossed my mind. I was healthy, my weight was perfect, I exercised, everything looked great, but I had a c-section anyway due to fetal distress.
Looking back today, I completely wish I had thought about the possibility of having a c-section. Had I thought about it I would have been much better prepared which means I would have understood the process, the complications, what recovery would be like and just how to make the whole process a more positive one.
I would have preferred a vaginal birth, as most moms do but the fact is that many women end up having a c-section, but if you educate yourself on the process, why it happens, the risks, the complications and the options, you are putting yourself in a much less vulnerable position because you will know more about what questions to ask, how to avoid unnecessary pain, how to heal faster and yes, even the possibly of how to avoid having a c-section.
We certainly can’t foresee everything but readying yourself for as much as you can makes a huge difference when it comes to positive outcomes.
If you’ve had a c-section, I’d love your thoughts on the topic…
