C-Section and Tubal Ligation - My Personal Experience
When I had a C-Section with my second child I had a tubal ligation done. One of the reasons for doing this was that it just made sense that as long as the doctor was in there I may as well get the tubal done.
At the time my husband and I had agreed that two children were enough, I was not in total agreement since I am a strong and faithful Catholic and this is an issue for my Catholic beliefs, however, I did promise to love honor and obey
so I made the conscious decision to go with no more babies.
A tubal ligation after having a c-section is no big deal. There are no physical complications that arise from it, no added pain or discomfort; it’s a simple procedure that adds about 30 minutes to the c-section surgery.
The issues I believe with having a tubal ligation are generally more emotional. I remember when I asked my doctor about having the tubal ligation procedure done he said there was no problem with doing it however I do remember him asking me several times if I was completely sure about having no more kids.
“This isn’t an easy procedure to turn around so you must be very sure”, he would say.
After more conversations with hubby and many thoughtful nights I decided to have it done.
After about two years I did have slight, very slight, regrets as I began to feel the tug of wanting another child. My only saving grace was that I was working a full time job at the time and very busy with life in general so I didn’t have much time to dwell on feeling regret and sadness, but I did however have second thoughts about whether I did the right thing.
The other issue that began to hit me was the decision against my faith. I’ve soon gotten over the guilt and made peace with it, however it can be a struggle for many women.
If you are considering a tubal ligation when having your c-section you don’t have to worry much about physical complications, it’s more the emotional side that needs consideration, however I’d love to hear your comments or experiences on the topic…
